Talkspace Offers Convenient Therapy for Those in Need

Have you ever felt the need to talk to someone who can help you with your problems, but traditional therapy doesn’t work for you? I recently downloaded the app Talkspace to check it out.

Hands down, the best part of this type of therapy is convenience. For traditional therapy, you usually have to schedule the sessions during business hours, and that doesn’t work for everyone. Not to mention that not everyone has access to a therapist in their area.

The way the app works is when you sign up, Talkspace does an assessment with a therapist to discuss your needs. After that, you pick the type of plan you want. The plans have different monthly fees. The higher fee plans include live sessions with the therapist. There is a less expensive plan with unlimited messaging, so you can text when you feel the need to talk to someone. The therapist will respond once or twice a day with help for your concerns. Find out more about Talkspace at Businessinsider.com

After you pick the plan, you are matched up with a licensed therapist that has experience with the issues you are facing. Another great option is that if you don’t feel comfortable with the therapist you selected, you can request a new one. And then you can start the therapy right away. The therapists are licensed and have background checks. The therapists also have bios you can look at.

Talkspace also has a website available where you can sync your sessions and find more resources. I found their blog particularly helpful with articles on many different mental health issues. There is tech support if needed, but the app was pretty easy to use.

I believe Talkspace works for people who would rather text than talk face to face about their personal problems. It removes the stigma of seeking help because you are the only one who has to know that you’re receiving the sessions. It’s easier to take the first step for help without being judged. Tim Ioannides On Skin Treatments

Not many people understand the full depths of what skin disease can do but, if not treated, it can have dire consequences. So how can you tell the difference between a skin disease and a harmless abnormality? Well, it is typically comprised of five main categories: atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, rosacea, psoriasis and eczema.

Contact dermatitis and eczema often have the same symptoms i.e. red, itchy skin while swollen and cracked skin is typically symptomatic of atopic dermatitis. If you have redness and pimples around your face, it is most likely rosacea and, if you have thick and bumpy skin patches, it’s probably psoriasis. Of course, the best way to tell is by going to the dermatologist and having a medical professional diagnose it.

Unfortunately, not all skin diseases currently have their own cure so it’s important to understand the best prevention and treatment methods for each condition. One of the most prominent and well-renowned is, of course, the sunshine vitamin. Enough of it will not only keep you healthy and strong but it’s also good for your immune system. Despite the fact that our bodies can generate their own vitamin D, there are still some people who don’t get enough of it. This is most likely because they don’t eat healthy, don’t get enough sun exposure or are simply overweight. Two of the ways you can tell if you’re vitamin D deficient is if you’re experiencing back pain or depression.

Tim Ioannides and Changing the Dermatology Industry Around

Tim Ioannides is a dermatologist working out of Florida. He first earned his medical degree at the University of Miami School of Medicine and completed an internship program at the University of Florida School of Medicine Health Science Center. As with many other medical professionals, he would take upon a residency at the Jackson Memorial Hospital. A couple of years passed and he decided to work at a private Dermatological Center where he was able to learn many skills in dealing with patients in the dermatology business, plus learn what the inner-workings of a private business like that looked like. This would move him to start his own business titled Treasure Coast Dermatology. Serving the Martin, Port St. Lucie, and Indian River counties in Florida, the business prides itself on building strong relationships with patients using a very comprehensive team. The business has since expanded to included five locations in total and with very low turnover for staff, he’s been able to keep many patients to have a close relationship.

In a recent interview, Tim Ioannides explained his rationale on why he started the business and what is really important to him. First, he explains that he decided to venture on to creating his own business as he believes a lot of dermatology comes from performing cosmetic procedures while he personally is more interested in changing lives by helping people protect skin and more. By starting his own business, he’s been able to build out the niche business that he loves to work in while giving an opportunity for many who have the same mindset to work for him.

He also explains that he felt ready to start a business as entrepreneurs have some of the same struggles medical professionals have in that they have to deal with hard situations that can have big consequences if wrong a lot of the time. In all, Tim Ioannides believe he has started a long lasting business that can change the dermatology industry.

Neurocore: Using Neurofeedback Therapy to Fight Stigmatization of Mental and Behavioral Challenges

Mental and behavioral challenges are subjects avoided by many societies across the world. Consequently, people who suffer from such conditions are stigmatized and find it hard to seek help for often treatable conditions. However, this trend is slowly changing. Companies like Neurocore are making progress in effective treatment strategies like neurofeedback which has been shown to work better than traditional psychotherapy and medication. Neurofeedback therapy, also known as Neurotherapy, refers to teaching the brain to self-regulate by measuring electrical brain waves.

Neurocore Treatment Programs

The brain is highly pliable and adapts quickly to environmental changes. Consequently, neurofeedback therapy through repetition and reinforcement improves brain functions in managing mental and behavioral challenges. Using qEEG technology, Neurocore offers customized neurofeedback therapy using two programs: in-center and mobile brain training. The former is available at the six state-of-the-art brain training center while the latter is provided anywhere, anytime after the initial assessment. Both programs take the format: initial assessment, customized treatment plan, and final assessment.

Patient Profiling

Neurocore’s neurofeedback initial assessment involves mapping brain activity. Brainwave analysis is conducted using electroencephalogram (EEG), integrated visual and authority continuous performance test (IVA), and heart rate variability (HRV). A patient’s profile is then completed by assessing a behavioral checklist, and clinical intake discussion by specialized professionals. Once this is done, the patient is taken through a customized treatment plan made up of 30 sessions for the in-center brain training and unlimited sessions for mobile brain training. A patient’s progress is tracked throughout the process to provide customized data for final assessment.

Neurofeedback Therapy History

Companies such as Neurocore would not be here today were it not for the work of pioneers within the neurofeedback therapy field. Hans Berger detailed and published his observation of the first recording of a human EEG using his son as a guinea pig. This opened up numerous possibilities in the field of theoretical and clinical neurophysiology. In 1968, Joe Kamiya published an article on the first neurofeedback training ever conducted where some human subjects showed the ability to change the state of their brainwave on command. Dr. Barry Sterman developed sensorimotor rhythm (SMR) which NASA uses to train its astronauts to avoid seizures due to exposure to rocket flue. The treatment is also used to treat epilepsy. Neurocore is now using neurofeedback brain training to treat conditions such as depression, anxiety, migraines, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), sleep disorders, stress, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and memory boot camp.
